Thats’s right. It’s ant season again. Time to come up with
some natural solutions to your ant problem, so read on.
So you wake up one morning and you see you have some guests for breakfast, but the trouble is, you didn’t invite them. Pesky ants have invaded your kitchen and are making their way to other parts of your house. You have kids and possibly even pets at home. So how do you come up with a safe alternative to removing these ants with out a lot of toxic pesticides that could harm your children or pets? Well, it turns out there are some natural non-toxic methods to accomplish this.
Ants are attracted to sugar and various other foods left out, or in your cupboards. The first line of defense is to make sure all containers are sealed, and nothing is left out. Clean all crumbs off your counter tops and clean dishes immediately after use. To go a step further you can use one or a combination of the following methods.
- Vinegar. Spraying vinegar around disrupts the ants pheromone trail, and they will not have a clear path to your home. Spray white vinegar where ever you see the ants, and break their chain to your kitchen.
- Garlic. Peel a clove of garlic and put it where you see the ants. Ants are repelled by this and will leave the area. When the clove dries up simply remove it and put a new one out.
- Baking soda. Mix equal parts baking soda and equal parts confectioners sugar in a small bowl type container. This works as natural ant bait. The ants will take it back to their home. The baking soda disrupts the ants biology and as they share it with each other watch them disappear.
- Coffee grounds. Spread coffee grounds around the foundation of your house and on ant hills and watch the ants dwindle. This interrupts their scent trail and gives them no way to find their way back to you, as ants follow these trails to find food discovered by other members of their colony.
Following these simple tips will leave your home or office ant-free for the remainder of the summer. What’s more you won’t have to worry about the toxic effects on the environment or your loved ones. .For more helpful tips, watch for our next topics on natural home and office cleaning.
